Job Type: Part-Time (approx. 10–20 hours/week, flexible scheduling) Reports To: Salon Owner / Operations Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented, and resourceful Part-Time Handyman / Fleet Maintenance Assistant to keep our mobile pet grooming vans clean, fully operational, and safe for our grooming team. Your primary focus will be on performing routine preventative maintenance, handling basic mechanical troubleshooting, and executing deep cleaning schedules. This role ensures our mobile salons remain highly professional, sanitary, and functional, keeping van downtime to an absolute minimum. You would be supporting parts of Monmouth county up through parts of Essex County and surrounding areas.

Key Responsibilities

1. Fleet Cleanliness & Sanitation

· Deep Cleaning: Perform scheduled thorough interior detailing, including power-washing or scrubbing waterproof walls, floors, and grooming tubs to maintain peak sanitary standards.

· Debris & Hair Removal: Clear internal central vacuum systems, empty heavy hair-trap baskets, and clean air intake and dryer filters to keep equipment running at full capacity.

· Exterior Presentation: Periodically wash, rinse, and clean exterior van bodywork and windows to preserve a professional company brand image.

2. Specialized Grooming Equipment Care

· Water Systems: Inspect and maintain fresh/gray water tanks, water pumps, valves, and hot water heaters. Perform regular system flushes and handle winterization during cold months.

· Mechanical Gear: Perform routine upkeep on electric or hydraulic lifting grooming tables (lubricating moving parts), check high-velocity dryer hoses for leaks, and inspect secure mounting hardware.

· Climate Control: Regularly wash and replace air filters for the rooftop cabin A/C units and specialized exhaust fans to ensure optimal airflow.

3. Basic Structural & Interior Handyman Repairs

· Hardware Maintenance: Fix or reinforce cabinet latches, sliding doors, ramp hinges, and anti-slip commercial flooring.

· Sealing & Caulking: Periodically inspect and re-caulk seams, corners, and panels to prevent moisture from leaking behind walls or under flooring.

· Lighting Arrays: Replace burned-out interior workspace LED lights and exterior utility safety lights.

4. Basic Vehicle Logistics

· Perform basic vehicle walkarounds (checking tire pressure, windshield wiper fluid, oil levels, and lights).

· Coordinate schedule windows to drop off and pick up vans from commercial mechanics for engine, drivetrain, or major automotive repairs.

Qualifications & Skills

· Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in handyman work, general property maintenance, detailing, or basic trade skills (plumbing/hardware repairs).

· Technical Skills: - Basic plumbing knowledge (working with PEX, PVC, water pumps, or water heaters). - Comfort using a wide range of standard hand and power tools. - Strong eye for detail, cleanliness, and structural upkeep.

· Problem-Solving: Ability to logically isolate minor mechanical problems or water leaks efficiently.

· Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, work comfortably in tight mobile utility spaces, and handle cleaning chemicals or sanitizers safely.

· Driver’s License: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record to safely move vans locally.

This is a remote position.

Compensation: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
